sure, in this world of democratic rights and equality to all and others, one would think that "freedom of speech" should be practised and is practised widely by all and asunder (is that how you say it?)
Anyway...if you believe that bullshit, you gotta be the most naive, gullible, idealistic lil' bugger around.
Cuz, dude, no where in hell (even) is that actually practised.
if "freedom of speech" is so bloody great and free-ing, then you can betcha we'd be seeing a heck of a lot more interesting tit-bits (ermm...in more ways that one) on d tellie, newspapers, mags, net etc
if "freedom of speech" is so bloody great and free-ing and is so widely practised, there'd be chaos.
plain and simple, cuz ppl wud just shoot their damn mouth off and to hell with the repurcussions.
you can actually go to someone and say something darn insulting (racist or un-PC) and you shouldn't (by right) get sued.
There wouldn't be defamation suits, to hell with bigotry and MCPs and we'd all just be happily killing each other over some insulting comment on one's religion, political beliefs, fashion sense (or lackof) and all these other sensitive issues (i put that in cuz i honestly can't think of any senstive issues rite now...haha!)
Imagine a day at the office....ah! I would have a field day.
Say things just to get em of my ample chest, man!
Oh....but yet again, you have this thing called, 'respect' and 'common decency' and 'sensitivity' and 'professionalism'.
You might hurt a friend unintentionally, or (some might say, worse) yourself.
I have this friend in another department.
Honestly, she takes some getting used to.
But, that is the lumrah of kehidupan....if you wanna be friends with someone, you gotta put up with some crap.
If she's willing to put up wif me when I'm not all that nice and sweet and angelique as I normally am, then I should return the favour, ay?
So this friend.....basically shot herself in the foot.
She had this blog and it was , as she referred to it, her diary...
Where she let out all the pent up stuff and emotions and thoughts and stuff....
But there's a reason people put their diary in their closet underneath tons of clothes, or put it underneath the mattress, or in a locked box, or in their undie drawer.
Or carry it with them everywhere they go.
So she confided in some of her friends about this blog, which is cool...but her friends are also human.
And typical of humans, we're jus a bundle of energy with all this emotions and thoughts and opinions and sense of self-righteousness.
They read her blog; they probably didn't like what they read.
And word got around town (or the department, at least)...who knows how that really happened.
Maybe one of her 'friends' let things slip.
Maybe it was done on purpose cuz maybe someone just thought what she wrote was worth telling the whole world about.
Maybe these were a bunch of friends who felt it was better to 'discuss' her at length rather then tell her to her face about what they thought she was doing.
Maybe someone was eavesdropping when her friends were discussing this blog.
Maybe someone was eavesdropping when she was discussing this blog.
Maybe it wasn't actually thru the blog that people found out what was going on...maybe it was something else altogether.
Anyway, that blog was all about her personal life...and soon, her personal life became her public life.
Her very public life.
It caused quite a reaction among the general public - they talked, they whispered, they asked her team lead, they discussed, they made assumptions...
they did everything but ask her directly (cus that's just rude, yo!)
Basically, they were having fun over the "dirt" they uncovered, supposedly, I suppose, trying to make sense of things.
Trying to understand the situation, they what's and why's, the how's the who's, the how often's and all that.
She, on the other hand, realised it was better to keep her diary under lock and key.
There's anger and frustration, confusion, certainly.
Embarrasment, definitely.
But, hopefully, there's also growth.
And the realisation that the "freedom of speech" pays some hefty price.
Luckily, managers worldwide realised that what goes on in her personal life is her personal business.
If it doesn't affect her performance and her behaviour at the office, the work she produces and her team-player-ness, then leave it be.
There's no need to penalise her professionally for her personal folly.
So why am I writing about this suddenly?
Cuz I wrote a post, well, more like was in the midst of writing it.
It was actually rather therapeutic.
I let out all my pent up frustrations and emotions and thoughts and whatnot about certain shitty things that are going on.
Luckily for me, I'd calmed down substantially before I hit the PUBLISH butang.
Of course, right now, there's only about 4 people who read my blog.
But still.....its always good to be a little bit more careful rather than carelessly getting off on that powerful high caused by complete, absolute, unrestricted, unlimited, unrestrained, incomparrable FREEDOM.
Saying what you wanna say, when you wanna say it, however way you wanna say it and to hell with the consequences.
That kind of high makes you feel arrogant and overly confident...which is dangerous beyond belief.
If people can take what you say verbally the wrong way, what makes you think what you say in writing would be taken as how you meant it to be taken, without judgements or assumptions being made?
Right now, I'm happy with the amount of "audience" I have.
I much prefer to be a wallflower, anyway...can't help it if I'm too cute for my own good, though

ekceli...
if a blog is posted on the internet, its not really a diary, isit?
once u've posted ur thots, u cant blame others 4 making noise...
kalau taknak, keep it 2 urself...
if nak let out pent up emotions, just write n save in ur pc, dont publish...
betul tak?
that's true tiza...
that's wat i said to d fren oso and wat i mentioned on this post.
u cannot expect ppl to not react when they read something that you've written
even if u insist that its jus ur personal tots
once wat's personal is made public, its basically a free for all
tiza,
having said that, i admit i too, can be very the celupar one.
which is why, when i angry, i prefer to keep my mouth shut, since i know what i say in anger (though might not mean) can be so very very horrid.
sometimes, some ppl jus deserve it, tho.
they think they can do whatever they want to do to you and just cuz u don say anything, they take it to mean that they can do it again...and again...and again...
but then again, after that, bila dah celupar kan diri, face the consequences, lah kan?
whether good or bad.....
